It’s always a good hair day around here

When the RBC Convention Centre (aka Winnipeg Convention Centre) opened its doors in 1975, so did Holiday Coiffures Hair Salon. Located on the second floor near the skywalk to the Delta Hotels by Marriott Winnipeg, clients from downtown and all across the city, have been coming for a cut, colour and conversation for years.

Owner Mario Potenza took over the business in 1981 and says his location is definitely unique.

“There used to be other stores and services in the Convention Centre but it has changed over the years,” said Potenza. “We’ve stayed here because we like the location. It has its challenges but we like the RBC Convention Centre management and have great cooperation from the staff.”

James Dark, Director of Finance and Corporate Services at the Convention Centre says having a hair salon on site has its advantages. “Mario provides a great service to our clients and has always maintained foot traffic in the building.  He continues to be a valuable tenant and we’re pleased to have him here.”

Potenza has always been a supporter of downtown Winnipeg and enjoys sharing his artistic talent with this clients.

“As a young man from Italy, I came to Canada in the late 1970’s when injuries kept me from pursuing a professional soccer career. I completed my apprenticeship and was fortunate to purchase the salon. I met my wife here and have been a part of Winnipeg ever since.”

He enjoys expressing himself through painting and other artistic means and has shared his talents with his daughter who is pursuing an acting career in Toronto and his musically talented son who continues to live in Winnipeg.

Potenza’s salon also provides tanning beds and hopes to include manicures and pedicures in the future.
