Celebrate with a Socially Conscious Event
The City of Winnipeg has joined the global fair trade movement and in 2017 received its official designation naming Winnipeg as Canada’s 25th Fair Trade Town.
A Fair Trade Town is a community where people and organizations use their everyday choices and buying power to increase sales of fair trade certified products and bring about positive change for farmers and workers in developing countries. The Fair Trade Town program in Canada recognizes more than 1,850 communities in 32 countries that have taken steps to advance fair trade.
At the RBC Convention Centre, we are proud to be part of this initiative by providing companies and organizations holding events in our building the support they need to be designated as a Fair Trade Event.
“We are the first convention centre in Canada to support this global initiative,” said Carmyn Peppler, Director, Operations, Event Services and Food & Beverage, RBC Convention Centre. “We are proud to be able to offer events the opportunity to provide fair trade items that directly benefits and empowers the lives of producers across the globe.”
Organizations that are interested in having their event designated as a Fair Trade Event would need to apply directly with Fairtrade Canada and the Canadian Fair Trade Network with the assistance of our Event Coordinators.
To be considered for designation, events must offer Fairtrade Certified items such as coffee, tea, chocolate, wine, flowers, fruit, sugar and other items.
A fair trade designated event adds meaning and an ethical spirit to an event and can positively impact global farmers and workers through simple but meaningful actions.
