RBC Convention Centre to Host Five Folklorama Pavilions
Traveling the world Folklorama style has just become easier with five pavilions located at the RBC Convention Centre over the two week event.
With 41 pavilions located throughout Winnipeg, the convention centre will host the Cuban, Polish and First Nations pavilions in week one and the Mexican and Brazilian pavilions in week two.
In its 48th year, Folklorama is 14 days of amazing hospitality, fabulous food and drink, fantastic entertainment and informative cultural displays.
With over 700 underground parking including handicap stalls with entrance access; convenient bike racks; accessible washrooms; on-site ATMs and much welcomed air conditioning, the convention centre will be a Folklorama hub as Manitobans and visitors come together to experience this rich and vibrant multicultural celebration.
Week One: August 6 -12
Welcome to Cuban Paradise! Enjoy the most popular genres of music in Cuba at this highly energetic and unforgettable show. Delicious Cuban cuisine and drinks will take your taste buds on a vacation. Enjoy their famous Cuba Libre or Mojito while you browse the cultural display and photo area. This year there will be three late night parties that will have you dancing into the night with the best Latin music video DJ’s in town, and all the way from Havana, special guests Maikel Dinza & Los Soneros de la Juventud. One of the best up and coming bands in Cuba! Los esperamos – See you there!
WITAMY! Have an incredible evening at the newly named Polish Pavilion. Performances by the Polish Dance Ensemble S.P.K Iskry and many others that will keep you mesmerized with their lively dances and energetic music originating from diverse regions of Poland. Buy some authentic Polish souvenirs and try the delicious Polish dishes such as Polska Kielbasa (Polish sausage), Golonka (Pork Hock) and for dessert a Nalesnik (cheese filled crepe) topped with berry sauce. Don’t forget to quench your thirst with a cold Polish beer, Sobieski vodka or Nalewka Babuni (cherry liquor).
TANSI! Come experience the rich culture of the First Peoples of North America! This year they celebrate the medicine wheel, which teaches us that all things are connected in the circle of life. With First Nations culture deeply embedded in Manitoba’s history and culture, how are you connected? This pavilion features fun activities, an interactive cultural display as well as riveting, colourful and educational performances! Enjoy the taste of locally grown organic wild rice stew, Indian Tacos and fry bread with raspberry dip – a true taste of Pow Wow!
Week Two: August 13-19
BIENVENIDOS! Come experience Mexico like you’ve never experienced it before! The Folkloric Ballet “Tradiciones” brings directly from Monterrey the vibrant, colourful dances of the Mexican northern states and live Norteño music. This year, “Quebradita” dance is back!! Finalists of the “Mexico’s Got Talent Show” will amaze you with their acrobatic dances. Grab a plate of exquisite Mexican cuisine, a refreshing beer, a tequila shot or a cool margarita and enjoy our magnificent show! Don’t forget to visit the one of a kind cultural display and the market place. Friday and Saturday are our late night Fiestas!
BEM VINDO! New location, new menu, new show! Come out and see this high energy show featuring Viva Brasil Canada! Live music coupled with live entertainment will take you on a tour of Brasil. Relax in air conditioned comfort as you sample the tasty cusine and cultural beverages of Brasil. Cachaca cocktails and Brazilian beer will have you feeling like you are heartbeat from the amazing Brazilian beaches, while our non-alcoholic drinks will refresh your taste buds. The FUN never stops and you can enjoy yourself late into the night during our Friday and Saturday late night parties.
