Possibilities are Endless
When the RBC Convention Centre completed its $180 million expansion, it almost doubled in size and became the fourth largest convention centre in Canada. Exciting news for Winnipeg as well as event planners from across the country who have been looking for a reason to come here.
Known as Manitoba’s premier convention venue, the three-story, 264,000 square foot multipurpose facility is more than just conferences and tradeshows. It’s home to diverse events like dance competitions, sporting events, concerts, multicultural celebrations, home and garden shows, fishing and boat shows, wedding shows and wellness expos and so much more.
“We are attracting larger and more unique events who may not have considered Winnipeg in the past,” says David Chizda, director of sales and business development. “Just last year we hosted Volleyball Canada’s 14U West Volleyball Championships with 87 teams and 1000 athletes. We transformed Hall A & B into 11 volleyball courts with spectator seating for the thousands who attended over the three day event.”
From to Boxing to Dancing
This April, the premier medical education conference in Canada, the Canadian Conference on Medical Education (CCME) will host the largest annual gathering of medical educators in the country.
That same weekend, the beautiful third floor City View Room we will be transformed into a boxing ring for the Fight for the Red Cross black tie amateur charity boxing event that will pit Manitoba industries against each other for some fun, friendly competition and sportsmanship.
Then on May 20 and 21, the City View Room will be filled with colour and culture as the Manito Ahbee International Pow Wow and Indigenous Marketplace & Tradeshow returns. This event is expected to draw over 800 dancers and thousands of spectators who will be coming to celebrate music, dance, tradition and friendship.
At the end of May, the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) will be taking over every inch of the building as more than 500 young people from all regions of Canada come to SCNC to participate in over 40 skilled trade and technology competitions.
Then this summer, two of Southern California’s “most prolific bands,” Sublime With Rome and The Offspring, will be touring together and bringing their concert to the convention centre on July 12.
“This just scratches the surface of what happens in our building on a daily basis,” Chizda adds. “Just a glance at our events calendar will show the variety and diversity of the events that we host. From those large conventions to the smaller gatherings, we most definitely have the right space and creative expertise to make each event a memorable one.”
