Designated Driver Program

The Winnipeg Convention Centre is a participant in the "Designated Driver Program" and promotes the value of responsible handling and consumption of alcoholic beverages.

The "Designated Driver Program" is available at all of the public events where alcoholic beverages are served.

Designated Driver Program
  • The "Designated Driver" identifies himself/herself to the Centre's cashiers who will place a plastic bracelet upon one arm. This bracelet immediately identifies the individual as a "designated driver" to the Centre's bartenders

  • Special "Designated Driver Tokens" are provided on a "complementary basis" (as many tokens as needed in allotments of 2 tokens per request) for the duration of which the bars are in service during the event

  • Non-alcoholic beverages are provided in exchange for each token

  • Bartenders/Servers WILL NOT provide alcoholic beverages to anyone wearing the identification bracelets

  • Designated Driver notices/signs promoting this program are placed at the cashier stations and on all bars throughout the event

  • It is the individual's responsibility to identify themselves as "Designated Drivers" to the Centre's cashiers in order to obtain the tokens

  • Tokens are only provided to those individuals wearing the "Designated Drivers Identification Bracelet"

  • Management & Staff are trained in server intervention practices and will not serve alcohol to anyone they judge to have consumed too much alcohol, or who show signs of over consumption.
