Ambassador Plaque Program
Each year, a number of residents who are members of various organization undertake presentations or bids to have the annual conference held in Winnipeg. Upon awarding of the bid to these local host committees, a number of volunteers offer their services for the variety of committees that are required to organize these conferences. Often these committees work for two to three years prior to the actual conference as they work through the planning and organization of the full scale of activities.
These host committees are "
proud of their community" and want the conference delegates to experience the local hospitality that our city can offer.
In September 1994, the Winnipeg Convention Centre (the Centre) introduced its Ambassador Plaque Program. The program is an official form of recognition of citizens and organizations who promote conferences and international, national or special event of note at the Centre.
In so doing these individuals and organizations have brought positive recognition, understanding and commerce to our city.
The Ambassador Plaque Program is an annual program and in a normal year a selection of two or three deserving recipients is made. The recipients are acknowledged at a formal ceremony and/or reception at the Centre involving representatives from the Province, City and Centre's Board of Directors and the chosen recipient(s) and their organization.
Plaques are permanently mounted on the Centre's "
Ambassador Plaque Wall of Fame" on the first floor level, left side of the main entrance, for open public viewing.
This recognition program promotes the importance of recognizing the local community committees for these conventions and events, which provide business for the Centre and economic spinoff to the city and province.
